Hurricane Alleys

Summertime visitors who want to hop off the beach and enjoy a cold drink, an easy-going bite to eat, and a fine oceanfront view can stroll along the boardwalk to reach Hurricane Alleys. Located just off the dunes, this beach bar and restaurant in the heart of Carolina Beach features shaded outdoor seating, light interior seating, (and plenty of dance space on hot summer nights), and a popular rooftop deck where the adjacent boardwalk and Atlantic Ocean vistas can be admired.

The atmosphere and menu are both fairly casual, with a nice helping of coastal fare. Patrons can dive into cold beers and mixed drinks to complement an appetizer like Boom Boom Shrimp, loaded nachos, or Hurricane Wings, or can settle in for a more complete meal with a fresh salad, wrap or sandwich, or a seafood basket that can include fried mini crab cakes, Mahi Mahi, oysters, shrimp, clam strips, chicken tenders, or a combination of 2 or 3 selections. With outstanding views that steal the scene, and a location that’s within strolling distance of both the adjacent beach and the shop and attraction-lined Carolina Beach Boardwalk, Hurricane Alleys is an easy-to-reach destination for a little break from the sun.

Southport - Fort Fisher Ferry

Visitors to historic Southport who want to make a beach escape, or Carolina Beach travelers who need an easy yet scenic route to head south will find the Southport / Fort Fisher ferry a convenient yet completely unique way to explore the southern North Carolina coastline. Though just a short 35 minute ride from the mainland to Pleasure Island, (the home of Fort Fisher State Park, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach), this ferry trip nonetheless gives its passengers exceptional views of the Cape Fear River, and an incredible story to take back home.

The Loop at Wrightsville Beach

New visitors to Wrightsville Beach may hear the phrase “The Loop” tossed around by locals and long-time visitors in-the-know. This initially unfamiliar term actually refers to one of the town’s literally largest attractions – a roughly 2.5 mile long path that circles through the very heart of town. Popular with walkers, runners, and even four-legged visitors, this unique little trail offers a great opportunity to explore the center of this popular beach vacation destination.
