Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Sunset Beach. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and choosing a perfectvacation home:

  • Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 250 The Ideal Spot by Sunset Vacations has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
