How to book the best rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your group choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 3 Bedroom Condo in Central Business District BHI- Deep Blue has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
