Tricks and tips to get the perfect Southport vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and pick yourrental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Carolyn's Beach House has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
