Getting the best Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Wilmington, NC area. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation rental in the Wilmington, NC area:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Dreamy Days: Coastal Cottage with Awe-inspiring Oceanfront Setting has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
