Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in Oak Island. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. \"Jenny's Dream\" Dual-unit 5 BR, perfect for folks vacationing together! has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Wilmington, NC beach you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
