Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
When to visit Carolina Beach & When to book:
- June, July, and August are high season in Carolina Beach. To get the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your family commit to trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Pet Friendly Townhome w Game Room and Fenced Yard has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Wilmington, NC attraction you simply love, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
