Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the best rental home in the Wilmington, NC area:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Peaceful private pool home dog friendly sleeps 8. large private lot fully fenced has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Wilmington, NC beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
