Tips for getting the perfect Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Filter your search:

  • To start, have your group choose dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Remodeled Beachfront Home by Pier, Restaurant, and Bar has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is right for your family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • If there's a certain Wilmington, NC destination you crave, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
