Booking the best Wilmington, NC vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Book your Wilmington, NC vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Wonderful Classic Oceanfront Home! Right On The Beach! Sleeps 10 has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
