Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing the right Wilmington, NC rental:

  • To start, have your family agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Ocean Views, Balcony, Pool, STEPS to Beach Restaurants Shops has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a certain Wilmington, NC destination you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
