Strategies to get the optimal Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Wilmington, NC area. Reserve your Wilmington, NC rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to pick the best rental home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • To start, have your group choose vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. PalmTreeHut has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Advice for a terrific stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
