Strategies to get the optimal Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

When to book a Wilmington, NC rental & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in Oak Island. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Start by having your family decide on trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Ruff Life: Bungalow with Easy Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
