Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

When to visit Oak Island & When to book:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Wilmington, NC attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing the best vacation home in Oak Island:

  • First, have your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Rum&Redfish Retreat! Perfect for your family & pet friendly! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
