Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by having your group agree to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Smiley's Sea Hut - Winds VI 1A - Beautiful Oceanfront Condo with Community Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
