Booking the best Oak Island vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spinnaker: 4 Bed\/2 Bath Oceanfront Home with Expansive Views from Living Area. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular Wilmington, NC destination you are enamored with, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
