Our top Wilmington, NC rental home tips and tricks:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Oak Island. To find the best vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

- Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. \"Holiday House\" Stunning Intercoastal home on Caswell w\/ Pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
- If there's an individual Wilmington, NC attraction you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
