Life is too short to be structured all the time, so come visit Burden’s End for a week, a month, or just a long weekend. Being so close to the beach (under 3 mins. to sand!) is priceless!!

Some of our specialties:
• Stand-alone home, 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, a half bath, and an outdoor shower with hot and cold water. See the floor plans in the pics to decide which room has YOUR name on it!
• Beds are made with 1500 thread count sheets and towels are out for everybody. You drive up, unload, and start appreciating your guests, Burden’s End is ready for you all
• Outdoor shower is not just for rinsing off the sand. Hot and cold water expands your showers to 4. Nothing better than to feel the breeze around your ankles while showering outside.
• Both a coffee pot and a 1 cup Keurig coffee maker for the few and the many. Bring your favorite brew
• Blender extraordinaire for those beach drinks you have been dreaming about
• Super well outfitted kitchen with pots and pans from the giant shrimp boil pot to the boiling eggs size and everything in between, leave yours at home
• Casserole baking dishes, silverware, plates, and glasses for all. And a dishwasher that runs like a appeal so you don’t have to worry!
• Flat electric griddle for those special dinners, in addition to the stove and microwave
• Full refrigerator and freezer in the kitchen and a modest undercounter refrigerator upstairs in the wet-bar to keep the drinks cold and ready
• TVs in every bedroom and great room (5 in all) to satisfy the tastes of all your guests
• Side table in the living room for puzzles that keep you part of the crowd but removed for puzzling
• Gates are installed at the top of the first-floor porch steps to keep all where they should be; also, at the top of the second-floor stairs, as well. There is a gate to set up at the foot of the inside stairs to keep little explorers where you can see them
• Tide Clock by the front door to alert you to the best times for beach combing (falling tide) and for sand castle building; but really any time is the best time for the beach
• 2 adult cruiser bicycles, body boards, beach chairs, beach toys for digging and sand castle making, beach pull-cart to get everything to and from the beach along with a charcoal grille in the shed
• Cozy gathering spots on the upper back porch (overlooking the ocean), the upper front porch (overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway and Marsh), on the first-floor back porch for lunches and breakfasts, the first-floor front porch to watch the world go by and the hammock and outdoor gathering spot on the ground floor under the home for more intimate chats and reminiscing.

Take a look at our amenities and reviews and ask any questions. If our schedule does not seem to fit yours, then ask. It never hurts to ask. Once you choose Burden's End, you will not be disappointed.

Vacation rental home tips:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. BURDEN'S END in OIB - 3 minutes to sand! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking

Advice for a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
