How to find the best Oak Island rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. The Beach Break-Walk to the Ocean on West Oak Island has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Wilmington, NC beach you love, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
