Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Bald Head Island. Reserve your Wilmington, NC vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. The Marsh House has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
