Our top Wilmington, NC rental property booking tips:

When to visit Oak Island & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your Wilmington, NC vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ultimate Beach Getaway in Beautiful Home with heated pool option! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
