Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Marsh-View Escape with Screened Porch & Outdoor Shower has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
