Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting and booking the bestrental home:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Welcome to Happy Place on Bald Head Island has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
