Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the perfectrental:
- Start by having your family choose trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Whale House #112 - Great Location, Walk to beach, sound, bars, and more! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's an individual Wilmington, NC destination you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
