Symphony fans don’t have to travel to New York, Boston, or even the state capital of Raleigh to hear a world-class performance, thanks to the Port City’s own Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. Established in 1971, and featuring beautiful musical that’s produced by 65 professional musicians, the orchestra introduces new visitors and locals alike to an unforgettable season of both classic arrangements and modern music showcases.
The orchestra performs a series of concerts throughout the year, (roughly 6-12 events annually), which can include everything from Beethoven and Bach, to selections from West Side Story or The Beatles. The end result is a family-friendly performance that can cater to all genres of music fans, but which aims at introducing young and old newcomers to the joys of well-conducted orchestra performances. Both individual performance tickets and season tickets are available, and shows are held at the Wilson Center on the CFCC campus – which boasts both ample seating and fantastic acoustics. In addition to the performances, the symphony holds a number of fundraising events that range from 5-15K races to bridge tournaments, which ensures symphony fans of all interests can join the artful community. A refined addition to Wilmington’s vast theater scene, the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is a genuine asset to the musical Cape Fear region.
