Rental home booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Wilmington & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing the bestvacation home:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 1st Floor Apartment in Large Foursquare on Tree Lined Street in Carolina Place! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
  • If there's a particular Wilmington, NC destination you are enamored with, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
