Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Oak Island vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summertime is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To book the largest rental within budget, we recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Wilmington, NC attractions.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. A Little Nauti: More than Just “Nice” Home Right on the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC beach you simply love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
