How to get the best Oak Island vacation property experience:

When to book a Wilmington, NC rental home & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Wilmington, NC restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Farmhouse at Turtle Creek: Beautiful, 3-Story, Custom Home with Decks Galore! Sh has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
