Booking the best Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Boho Studio in Sea Trail, Sunset Beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
