How to get the best vacation rental experience:

When to visit Oak Island & When to reserve a rental home:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Coastal Living: 6 Bed\/4 Bath Home with Approx. 6000 Square Feet, 2 Living Areas, has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Have a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
