Tricks and tips to get the optimal Wilmington, NC vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your Wilmington, NC rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Wilmington, NC rental home:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Daze Off: Spacious Home in Walking Distance to Beach and Waterway has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a particular Wilmington, NC beach you are crazy about, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
