Tricks and tips to get the perfect Wilmington, NC vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Best Location on the Island has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
