How to find the best Ocean Isle Beach vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Float My Boat on the canal in OIB! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC destination you are crazy about, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
