Tips to get the best Wilmington vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the perfect rental in the Wilmington, NC area:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Greenfield Cabin and Guest House has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your trip.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
