How to book the best Wilmington vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family choose date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Historic Home in Downtown Wilmington - One Block from Riverwalk -King Size Beds has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
