Wilmington, NC vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Oak Island & When to reserve a Oak Island rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect rental in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lovely 4 Bedroom Ocean view house in West Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
