Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Wilmington, NC area. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the best vacation home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanside Apartment in the 'Heart of the Beach' Ground Level has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
