Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Holden Beach. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Selecting the perfect vacation home:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Hobbs Realty - Play in the \"Sand 'n Surf\" in this beachfront home with a private pool and more! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
