Tricks and tips for getting the best Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your Wilmington, NC vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to pick the perfect vacation home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Seaside Delight: Luxury Oceanfront Home with Pool, Elevator has 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
