Adventure awaits. Discover aquatic wildlife and vegetation at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher or appreciate a calming ferry ride across the Cape Fear River to a cozy little shopping town called Southport. Take a trip back in time at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Museum which features live oak-covered trails and bunkers from the American Civil War. Stroll through the marsh to visit the home of the famed Ft. Fisher Hermit. Or wind down with nature at our two state parks, sure to provide a memorable experience with hiking, fishing, and water activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking, and search for a Venus Flytrap which is native to NC only. As one of North Carolina's most undeveloped beaches, the island offers a unique opportunity to see many diverse coastal wildlife, including pelicans and loggerhead sea turtles, in their natural habitat. Whether it’s exploring activities on the island, appreciating the ocean vistas, or enjoying a drink by sunset from your own private balcony, Pleasure Island offers diversion for every enthusiast!
Explore the treasures of Carolina Beach, ranked one of the top 10 boardwalks in the country by Food & Wine magazine. One of the last remaining beach boardwalks on the East Coast, it includes a variety of eateries, an arcade, stores, ice cream, Famous Britts Donuts, bars, and more! During the summer months, the Boardwalk is bustling with the sound of music, carnival rides, bingo, family nights, and events like the weekly fireworks and concert series. Rent a Jeep, bicycle, or golf cart as the most convenient ways to navigate the island. Annual off-season events include the Cape Fear Kite Festival, Christmas by the Sea, and the Island of Lights Festival.

Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
How to select the best vacation rental in Carolina Beach:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Great Ocean Views in Heart of Carolina Beach Boardwalk has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Wilmington, NC destination you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
