Things To Do:
Oak Island is known for its golden sand beaches, calming blue waters, friendly community, and proximity to the cities of Southport, Wilmington, and Myrtle Beach. There are many cute island coffee stores, stores, breweries, and a park that showcases a splash pad for summer fun! With a gorgeous Golf Club open to summer travelers and over 100 public water access points, there is an abundance of all things adventurous to do on Oak Island!

If you'd like to keep your exercise routine going while on vacation, you can get an out-of-town Gym pass at Oak Island Recreation Center. Utilize the Rec Center's ample parking, put in at the Kayak ramp, and spend hours kayaking our handsome marshes.  Sit on the lawn and savor a nighttime off cooking at our Weekly Friday nighttime "Summer Concert In The Park" with a couple of local food truck options at this family-centric Live Music event. Beach Day takes place in Oak Island on the Friday before July 4th and features all-day activities followed by fireworks on the island that evening.

Visit Historic Southport, a seafaring town just five miles from our island, for a bigger nightlife. Southport, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, features a variety of different eateries, bars, live music and shopping. It is one of our favorite places to walk around and check out different food and live music on the weekends. There are complimentary parking options all over town, and you can conveniently walk to dozens of places while appreciating the breeze from the riverfront and admiring historic homes and general store buildings that date back to the early 1800s. Southport's State Fourth of July Festival is a three-day street fair with artists from all over the state, vendors, and food. It is really like being in an Andy Griffith episode with the parade and huge finale fireworks show over the riverfront in Southport.
We look forward to your visit!

Strategies to get the best Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Book your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Make a plan and pick a perfectrental:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Ask about a $174.46 linens discount! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
