Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Southport. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Wilmington, NC vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and pick the right Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Mad River Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
