Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Bald Head Island rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Booking your Wilmington, NC vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing and booking the best Wilmington, NC vacation home:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Top floor condo with community pool in Royal James BHI! Two golf carts and access to BHI Club has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
  • If there's a certain Wilmington, NC attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

During your stay:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. text the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. See for yourself by scanning the QR code and call Victory Beach Vacations at 910.458.0868 to book your Cape Fear getaway. Start making your memories today! —Grace Silipigni
