How to get the best rental home experience:

Get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Oak Island. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Finding the perfect rental in Oak Island:

  • To start, have your group choose vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Updated Beach Cottage with Wonderful Pool Near Beach Access has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC attraction you are crazy about, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
