How to find the best Wilmington, NC rental home experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Oak Island. Booking your Wilmington, NC vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. American Dream: 3 Bed \/ 2 Bath Oceanfront Home with 2 Covered Porches Close to O has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
