Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing the best Wilmington, NC vacation home:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful oceanfront 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo with elevator, pool and huge deck. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If there's a certain Wilmington, NC attraction you long to visit, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
