Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the best value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Finding the best rental home:

  • First, have your group select date ranges and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Condo w\/ Private Balcony & Lovely River Views in Walkable Locale has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC destination you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
