How to book the best Oak Island vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • First, have your group decide on vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. 4BR\/5BA - NEWLY RENOVATED, Walk to Beach\/Shops\/Dining, Sleeps 12 has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
