Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by having your group commit to the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Gone Coastal Upper Unit. Easy walk to beach and boardwalk has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
