The well-marked walkway at SE 31st street provides a town kayak launch for the Davis Canal and a great view of the center of the island, not accessible by car. This is our favorite area to catch a great sunrise/sunset around the marshlands and to check out a lot of waterbirds. There is a secondary walking path at SE 20th, so there is potential for a longer loop for the runners in your group!  We have lawn games for the teenagers and an elevator for the great-grandparents. Welcome to indoor-outdoor living at its best, with 2 screened porches, one up and one down, and a sun room off the living room. Our yard features a cornhole play area, putting green, and an outdoor shower. Wood floors throughout the living area make it user-friendly for beach goers. Utilize the Rec Center's ample parking, put in at the Kayak ramp, and spend hours kayaking our beautiful marshes.  Sit on the lawn and appreciate a nighttime off cooking at our Weekly Friday nighttime "Summer Concert In The Park" with a couple of local food truck options at this family-centric Live Music event. Beach Day takes place in Oak Island on the Friday before July 4th and features all-day activities followed by fireworks on the island that evening.Visit Historic Southport, a seafaring town just five miles from our island, for a bigger nightlife. Southport, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, features a variety of different eateries, bars, live music and shopping. It is one of our favorite places to walk around and check out different food and live music on the weekends. There are complimentary parking options all over town, and you can comfortably walk to dozens of places while appreciating the breeze from the riverfront and admiring historic homes and general store buildings that date back to the early 1800s. Southport's State Fourth of July Festival is a three-day street fair with artists from all over the state, vendors, and food. It is really like being in an Andy Griffith episode with the parade and grandiose finale fireworks show over the riverfront in Southport.We look forward to your visit!
